SafeSport and Player Safety

Every player deserves a safe, respectful place to learn and play. Putnam County Futbol Club (PCFC) follows Ohio Soccer Association (OSA) Safe Soccer requirements and has adopted safeguarding and Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP).

Report a concern

Immediate danger or a life-threatening emergency: call 911.

Anyone may report suspected abuse or misconduct. You do not need proof, club permission, or a completed club review to make a report.

Report to the U.S. Center for SafeSport OSA reporting information

SafeSport reporting line: 833-587-7233. The Center’s online form accepts anonymous reports, with no reporting fee.

  • Suspected child abuse or neglect: report promptly to local law enforcement or the appropriate child-protection authority. OSA requires Adult Participants to report known or suspected child abuse to the appropriate law enforcement authorities within 24 hours and also report the information to OSA. Do not investigate it yourself or wait for club approval.
  • Sexual misconduct: report to the U.S. Center for SafeSport. Reporting to the club or OSA does not replace required reports to authorities or the Center.
  • Bullying, hazing, emotional or physical misconduct, or MAAPP violations: use OSA’s reporting route or U.S. Soccer’s reporting options. U.S. Soccer’s Integrity Hotline is 312-528-7004.

If a concern involves a club contact or coach, report directly through the independent channels above.

Our policy and club confirmation

PCFC is affiliated with Ohio Soccer Association. The club confirms that all coaches and staff required to complete SafeSport training and background screening are current as of November 2, 2026.

PCFC has adopted safeguarding/MAAPP policies. OSA’s Safe Soccer Policy is the governing resource for prohibited conduct, reporting, screening, education, prevention, and enforcement.

Families may contact PCFC with questions about policy implementation or to request confirmation of required training and screening. This dated club statement is not an independent audit or a SafeSport certification of the club.

Everyday safeguards: what families should expect

The full adopted policy governs, including its defined exceptions and consent requirements. Key prevention standards include:

  • Visible interactions: adult/minor interactions during soccer activities must be observable and interruptible unless a policy exception applies.
  • Transparent messages: electronic communications with minors include a parent/guardian, another adult family member, or another Adult Participant as required by policy. This applies to texts, email, social media, and team apps.
  • Individual training: follow the policy’s parental consent and observation requirements.
  • Travel and lodging: follow restrictions on one-on-one transportation, room sharing, supervision, and written parental consent.
  • Changing areas and care: protect athlete privacy and follow the rules for locker rooms, changing spaces, and athletic treatment.

Training and screening requirements

OSA requires annual SafeSport training for Adult Participants. Required adults must also complete background screening on OSA’s applicable cycle. Coaches, administrators, volunteers, and adult athletes should check their role-specific requirements through the club and OSA before participating.

OSA’s broader Safe Soccer program also covers concussion safety and Lindsay’s Law. Parent and youth education courses are valuable resources; they do not replace the required adult SafeSport course.

Resources for parents and players

Talk with your player about boundaries, trusted adults, and how to speak up. U.S. Soccer provides links to free parent training, age-appropriate youth courses with parental consent, and parent toolkits.

Speak up without retaliation

Retaliation for a good-faith report is prohibited under OSA and U.S. Soccer policy. A concern can be reported even when the facts are uncertain. U.S. Soccer and the Center provide anonymous reporting options. Information may need to be shared with authorities or investigators; absolute confidentiality cannot be promised.
